Buying a mattress is an investment for years to come, in fact, we spend a third of our life in bed so it’s important to choose the right one. Sleeping on a poor quality mattress is one of the main sources of back pain, so it’s recommended that you change your mattress every 8 years to reduce the risk.

In-store at JTF Mega Discount Warehouse and on, we have a great choice of mattresses varying in size, material and firmness, so you can chose the best mattress for you. All of our mattresses are made in the UK.

To help you choose the right mattress, we recommend reading our mattress guide before you buy.

Which type of mattress should I choose?

We offer 3 different types of mattresses; open spring mattresses, pocket spring mattresses and memory foam mattresses. Each type of mattress has different benefits, which we have outlined below.

Open spring mattress

An open spring mattress contains a number of tightly coiled springs which provide a generally firm level of comfort. An open spring mattress is usually lighter than other mattresses meaning they are easier to manoeuvre and turn when needed.

Pocket spring mattress

Pocket spring mattresses contains a number of springs which are separated into different pocket-like sections. This separation of the springs adds more structure to the mattress as the movement of springs is contained within the pockets. If you share your bed with a partner, a pocket spring mattress will prevent you from rolling towards your partner in your sleep as the pockets prevent the springs from leaning to the side.

Memory foam mattress

Our memory foam mattresses are made from a high density foam which supports your weight and retains its shape when moulded to the contours of your body. A memory foam mattress helps to maintain correct posture when you sleep as it moulds to the natural shape of the body.

Which will be the most comfortable mattress for me?

The comfort of a mattress is generally measured in firmness. On we rate the firmness of our mattresses from one to five, one being soft and five being very firm.

When buying a mattress, you also need to think about the weight that the mattress is taking. On average a soft mattress is expected to hold 64kg of weight, a medium firm mattress will hold up to 102kg and a firm mattress is best for holding weight over 102kg.

Soft mattress

A soft mattress will mould to your body, relieving the pressure from your hips and shoulders. This type of mattress is particularly good if you sleep on your side as it will support your posture.

Medium firm mattress

If you prefer a mattress that’s soft to lie on, but still supports your body then a medium firm mattress is ideal for you. This type of mattress offers a comfortable night’s sleep for a range of different sleeping positions.

Firm mattress

A firm mattress only compresses slightly when you lie down in it, meaning it provides more support for your spine. Due to the support a firm mattress offers to your spine, this type of mattress is recommended if you sleep on your back.
