To avoid having to pay out in expensive car repairs, it’s best to carry out some regular car maintenance. We have put together some tips to help you get the best out of your car without paying a fortune.

Windscreen

• Make sure that your windscreen wash is topped up as accidentally wiping your windscreen with no liquid can scratch the glass.

• It’s recommended to change your wiper blades every 6 months. Before the winter arrives, it’s best to check the wiper blades are in good condition, otherwise they should be replaced.

• Check your windscreen regularly for chips as an unfixed chip can lead to a shattered windscreen.

Engine oil:

• New oil in your car will help to increase the engine life, it will also improve performance and power. Use the dipstick to check the level of engine oil, judge how far the oil is to where the maximum/minimum levels are and top up with engine oil.

Tyres:

• Make sure you check your tyre pressure regularly otherwise you’re at risk of getting a flat tyre, a costly mistake.

• We advise you to keep a car jack and wrench in your car in case of emergencies and you have to change your tyre. We also advise keeping a care safety kit that includes reflective signs and a Hi Vis jacket if you do breakdown and have to exit your vehicle.

Winter car care:

• There’s nothing worse than having to wait for your car to defrost in the morning. Prevent the full force of frost by covering your car up with a car cover.

• Keep an ice scraping kit and some defroster in your car, as these are essentials in the winter.

• Replace your normal windscreen wash with a windscreen wash with added anti-freeze as this should help to prevent a heavy layer of frost.
